Wallpaper is Back!

Over the past year wall coverings have regained their stardom and are finding their way back into the average Rochester home. With the selection of the newest fashions and specialty papers, the sky is the limit for choices.

Retro Goes Green:
Actually the "newest" fashions aren't so new at all. Many popular papers are retro of the 70's. Large Damask prints, Foil and Flocked patterns ( you remember, the wallpaper with the fuzzy feel), heavy textured papers such as Grass cloth, and specialty coverings that once brought attention to the walls have now been revamped to be more eco-friendly. How about cork or bamboo wall covering or real tropical plant leaves that are pressed and then laminated to the wallpaper backing for or a more traditional look there is always embroidered wall coverings that look like fabric.

What Color?

Although the 70's look has returned, the colors havesomewhat taken a shift. Most patterns are simpler than they were before, usually having only two colors in the paper. The new neutral is brown. Background colors such as chocolate, coffee, or mocha, with accents of bright fuchsia, turquoise, light blues andlight greens are common in the patterns. Furniture styles and accessories aremore on the contemporary side now and so accenting a wall in a traditional paperhelps create a nice balance. Colors ofthe 80's are just around the corner with dusty rose, mauves and grays waitingfor a place on the wall again.
